National Quilting Day Celebration

Virginia Star Quilters celebrated National Quilting Day with a special program.

Members shared tools, techniques and showed some of their recent quilts.

There was a demo for the Bloc Locs and The Wonky Ruler.

One member gave a mini trunk show of her applique quilts.

I had the privilege of giving a demo on Quilt in a Day's Wonky Ruler.

The quilt top above and this one are layouts taken from the Twisted Log pattern that comes with the ruler.

McTavishing Quilt Along

Learning can be fun when you have a team cheering you on.

I was pleased to join Amy of Amy's Free Motion Quilting Adventures  in a McTavishing quilt along.

The  timing of the March 2014 quilt along was perfect! I had just finish basting a sample quilt for a workshop.  I decided it would be my canvas for the quilt along.

Under the Needle

I love free motion quilting and the creative process it offers.

This is the first time I have combined straight lines with feathers.

It has been a year since I purchased the Janome 7700. So far, I am pleased and enjoy sewing with the 7700.

My free motion quilting has definitely improved.

The lines accentuate the flow of the feather design.

Christmas Table Runner

I really like how this table runner is coming together.

The back of the table runner is so pretty.

Wow, a friend would call this a happy accident.

I was not planning to make this table runner. It became a runner when an experiment went wrong. :-)

I like the result. I think will make a pattern for it.(My first attempt) and maybe offer it on Craftsy.com

It is a fun and easy project that is great for free motion quilting experimenting. If you do not like machine quilting decorative stitches are a great alternative.

I guess I will need make the decorative stitch version. Stay tuned.
